About the event

In an era marked by intensifying geopolitical competition and rapidly evolving forms of conflict, NATO finds itself at a crossroads, caught between the demands of external threats and the strains of internal fragmentation. From great-power rivalry and regional instability to cyber and hybrid warfare, the alliance is under pressure not only to adapt, but to justify its continued relevance.

Yet the greatest challenge may lie within. Diverging national interests, persistent disputes over burden-sharing, and growing doubts about the reliability of transatlantic leadership raise a fundamental question: can NATO still function as a cohesive security actor, or is it gradually drifting into strategic disunity?

This event brings together experts on the subject to critically assess the alliance’s trajectory. With Professor Lapa (Bocconi University) setting the framework and moderating, Professor Berrettini (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore) and Dr. Urbani Grecchi (Intesa Sanpaolo) will explore NATO’s historical evolution, the tensions reshaping its present, and its uncertain prospects that lie ahead.
