Our Identity
The name "Aleph" represents the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, whose connotation as "origin" resonates with our mission: to trace back the root causes of contemporary phenomena in global politics, security, and economy, in order to better analyse and predict the decisions and the consequences that shape the world around us.
Yet, the inspiration behind our name is directly and more properly drawn from the short story "The Aleph" (1949), by Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges.
“Aleph is the point in space that contains all other points [...] the only place on earth where all places are — seen from every angle, each standing clear, without any confusion or blending.”
In Borges’ universe, the Aleph is a singular vantage point—one that holds the entirety of existence within itself, allowing the observer to perceive the whole and its parts simultaneously.
This idea captures the very essence of our think tank's vision. Our analyses explore the interactions between actors, structures, movements, technologies, trends, and strategies, dissecting the forces at play while never losing sight of the bigger picture.
