About the event

As global energy demand accelerates and fossil fuels remain at the center of geopolitical contention, nuclear energy is re-emerging as a cornerstone of national resilience and sustainable development strategies. This event will delve into the economic and safety dimensions of nuclear power plant management, unpacking the dynamics at play in civilian nuclear facilities. From compliance with international regulations to security architecture, threat assessment, and protection of sensitive information, the discussion will explore how nuclear-power plant oversight connects local operational realities with global stability and national strategic interests.

• Professor Gullì from Bocconi University will introduce the core themes of the event, outlining the intersections between nuclear energy policy, global security, and international governance.

• Dr. Giovanni Calabresi will present how SOGIN, as Italy’s nuclear operator, implements comprehensive security measures in full compliance with national and international regulatory frameworks. His intervention will be articulated in several key sections: an overview of SOGIN’s role and responsibilities in the nuclear sector, an illustration of how it operates in alignment with IAEA standards, European Union directives, and Italian national legislation on nuclear security, and a description of the security framework within the company, including the procedures for safeguarding classified and sensitive data.

• Dr. Claudia Pavarini will provide an overview of the national legal framework underpinning nuclear energy. She will analyze the current situation and possible future scenarios, considering regulatory requirements, recent policy debates, and the evolving political landscape at both the Italian and European level.
